Ly Son island district in the central province of Quang Ngai received from 200-350 daily visitors from the mainland during early days of this summer, especially at the weekends. The Ly Son passenger transport cooperative has raised the number of high-speed boats from two to four a day to meet the increasing demand for travel of local people and holidaymakers. By mid-April, the number of tourists to Ly Son island district has stood at about 6,000.
Pham Hoang Linh, Vice Chairman of the Ly Son People’s Committee, said Ly Son boasts many beautiful sites and national relic sites such as Hang pagoda, Duc pagoda, Cau cave, an exhibition house on the Hoang Sa Bac Hai flotilla, the communal house of An Vinh and An Hai villages, Thoi Loi mountain and Ly Son lighthouse, which attract many visitors.
However, the weak infrastructure system has failed to meet demands of tourists. Visitors from other districts and provinces are advised to book in advance with the Ly Son Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism or local hotels for accommodation and sight-seeing tours.
Most hotels and guest houses in the 10sq.km. island district have been full recently and as a result, many tourists had to rent accommodation from local people. Many hotels have also increased prices by 20-30 percent./.
