The gifts included clothes, footwear and items for personal use in order to help the sailors feel comfortable during their time in Phu Yen as they wait to return to their homeland.

Bangladeshi captain M. Khorshed Alam said: “I cannot express my emotion in words. I know that following international practice, distressed sailors will be rescued. However, I’m surprised that we received so much help from the Vietnamese fishermen. We were rescued by a Vietnamese vessel. Although they were poorly equipped, they shared everything they had with us. They even stopped their fishing trip because of us”.

According to Truc, Phu Yen provincial People’s Committee had contacted embassies of countries of the sailors and on May 7, representatives of the embassies visited Phu Yen to conduct procedures to receive the sailors./.
